Hardware recycling
The Tumulus cluster is only made of recycled parts: servers, storage, network, etc. All has been given to us by external entities that do not use them anymore. We try to give a second life to this hardware, by providing a best effort production.
Heat recycling
Heat generated by the cluster is directly used to warm up the FabLab (La Fabrique du Loch). As our building is old and badly isolated, we can recycle nearly all the heat generated by the cluster, instead of wasting energy not to freeze. When no calculations occure, Folding@Home jobs are automatically started on the cluster, to regulated FabLab temperature while using electricity for a smart prupose.
